Who are you, and what do you do in your ‰ÛÏday job‰Û?

Scott Hamilton, CEO Executive Next Practices Institute, also Managing Director of the best strategy organization and team in the world – Nextworks Strategy – just Google the term “executive next practices” and you’ll get inundated (and I’m lousy at remembering all our social media handles).

How did you first hear about DisruptHR?

I was speaking at a conference and others suggested it was a great fit for the contrarian ideas we often present.

Why did you decide to raise your hand and become an organizer for DisruptHR events in Orange County?

Easy.. the events are fun, insightful and break the traditional mold of most conferences. The short presentations force the speaker to be concise and highly relevant- no fluff.

How many events have you organized?

Spoke at 5 and heavily involved in another 5 across the country- everyone of them with their own “vibe”.

What types of people/industries have attended your events?

HR, CFOs, Communications and marketing professionals, groupies and few who are there for the food 🙂

What are you most proud of that has come out of being involved with/organizing DisruptHR events?

Great, concise insights and truly energizing/relevant events.

What kind of feedback have you received from those who attended prior DisruptHR Orange County events?

The consistent reaction from attendees is that the information is timely and the way it is presented is the NEW way of communicating- the laughter and yelling in the room always makes it worthwhile…

What is your favorite DisruptHR Talk, and why?

Hey, I once gave one of these talks dressed in “board shorts” , so naturally I thought that particular talk on the 4 ways HR can disrupt themselves was a hit (Got a couple of favorable comments about the legs too).

Based off of the Talks and conversations at your events, what do you feel are the areas with the biggest opportunity for disruption?

Easy. Everything. Command and control models, covert culture, “paperwork”, HR as a regulator, silos (yes, still there), 40 work weeks, cubicles, open space, closed space, burritos (requires more time to explain).

What excites you or frustrates you about the future of work, your career and/or DisruptHR?

The future of work is here already, we just haven’t acknowledged it. The word “career” is an old word- implies a linear track- not the case for most folks who want to drive 2-5 year experiences in their lifetime. We should probably think about disrupting even these events at some point- maybe have the audience present to the speakers and have the speakers rate them. Cheers and keep up the great work!
