Who are the people that are taking the lead in disrupting the future of work?
They’re the official Disruptors (Organizers) of DisruptHR events held in cities around the world.
Each week, we’ll introduce you to one of these intelligent, inspiring, and beautiful people (okay, pick two) who have stepped up, and volunteered to organize a Disrupt HR event in their city.

How did you first hear about DisruptHR?
I came across the website after googling “disrupt HR”.
Why did you decide to raise your hand and become an organizer for DisruptHR events in Regina, Saskatchewan (Canada)?
I liked the format, and loved the concept. I knew there were like-minded professionals out there like me who would want to attend.
How many events have you organized?
Our first event was held in May 2016, and we had approximately 100 people in attendance. (We “sold out” six 6 weeks prior to the event!)
What types of people attended your event?
Our attendees were mostly HR professionals, but we also had a mortgage broker, some marketing professionals, and educators.
What are you most proud of in regards to being involved with DisruptHR events?
All of our ticket sales proceeds went to a non-profit organization that raises awareness and provides education about mental health – UnderstandUs.
What kind of feedback did you receive from those who attended the first DisruptHR Regina event?
It was more the energy in the room that made the organizers feel great. A bit intangible, but at the same time, more real than any verbal feedback we could have received.
What is your favorite DisruptHR Talk, and why?
People People by Cory Blair – Chief People Officer at Affective Consulting. His talk is a simple, straight-forward, back-to-the-basics message.

Based off of the Talks and conversations at your event, what do you feel are the areas with the biggest opportunity for disruption?
How HR presents itself as a profession is where I feel we need the most disruption 90% of the time.
As an HR professional for many years, then an entrepreneur for a time, and currently transitioning into a marketing role, I’ve attended many HR events and many marketing events. And let me tell you which ones are more fun, more engaging, and more memorable – Marketing events!
HR needs to step it up, get out into social media, and engage employees in the same way marketing engages customers. There are synergies to be found in using marketing strategies as a way to guide HR and employee engagement.
What excites you or frustrates you about the future of work, your career and/or DisruptHR?
I joined Orange Tree Living because it allows me to do exactly what I’ve identified above as HR’s biggest opportunity for disruption.
My role is to bring engagement to life by marrying marketing strategy with HR strategy, and integrating OTL’s philosophy throughout not only employee processes, but within the intergenerational programming that makes OTL such a unique and exciting living experience.
DisruptHR Regina (#DisruptHRYQR) will be back in early 2017 with their next event!
