Who are the people that are taking the lead in disrupting the future of work?
They’re the official Disruptors (Organizers) of DisruptHR events held in cities around the world. Each week, we’ll introduce you to one of these intelligent, inspiring, and beautiful people (okay, pick two) who have stepped up, and volunteered to organize a Disrupt HR event in their city.
Charlotte Gamber of DisruptHR Sioux Falls (Disruptor #156)
Who are you, and what do you do in your “day job”?
I’m Charlotte Gamber, and I’m the Area HR Director for the state of SD for Blackhills Healthcare, a division of Skyline Healthcare.
How did you first hear about DisruptHR?
I’d seen the posts on LinkedIn for quite some time. Like many others, I wasn’t sure what it was about but it caught my eye. I told myself if an event was held near me, I would attend. Fargo’s was my first event and as soon as I finished their event, I knew we needed it in Sioux Falls.
Why did you decide to raise your hand and become an organizer for DisruptHR events in Sioux Falls?
I think the DisruptHR movement is a positive one and definitely something we need in our community. I wanted to get in on the ground floor of organizing our local events so that I could impact both the event and our local community through DisruptHR.
How many events have you organized?
We held our first event on March 9, 2017 and sold out all 100 seats (that included vendors and speakers). We’re planning our second already for April 2018!
What types of people/industries have attended your events?
Our event was primarily attended by HR professionals and entrepreneurs, but we continue to strive to bring in new and different insights.
What are you most proud of that has come out of being involved with/organizing DisruptHR events?
We have a fantastic board who are committed to putting on successful and thought-provoking events!
What kind of feedback have you received from those who attended prior DisruptHR Sioux Falls events?
A lot of the feedback from out event was very positive, which was wonderful since none of us had ever done this before. People immediately said we needed to do another one and it was the best HR event they had ever been to. The overwhelming support was amazing.
What is your favorite DisruptHR Talk, and why?
Self-care for HR Professionals” by Shiah Bazeley. None of us do this well enough!
Based off of the Talks and conversations at your events, what do you feel are the areas with the biggest opportunity for disruption?
I know it seems silly, but I think it’s just getting the basics right. A lot of the talks are about things that seem really elementary. Personally, I think being great is just consistently getting the basics done effectively and efficiently.
What excites you or frustrates you about the future of work, your career and/or DisruptHR?
I think the pace of change is both exciting and frustrating. It’s so exciting to see everything that happens and know that there’s no way to predict what the future will be like (although it is fun to try) but it is also a source of frustration and anxiety for many of us.
