Who are the people that are taking the lead in disrupting the future of work?
They’re the official Disruptors (Organizers) of DisruptHR events held in cities around the world.
Each week, we’ll introduce you to one of these intelligent, inspiring, and beautiful people (okay, pick two) who have stepped up, and volunteered to organize a Disrupt HR event in their city.

How did you first hear about DisruptHR?
Back in late 2014, cruising the web for lone rebels in HR, I came across the site. I found out we didn’t have a community in Phoenix, and at the time I wasn’t prepared to lead one. Fast forward to January 2016, stars aligned, and I met Stacie Mallen, who had just signed the charter. The rest is history.
Why did you decide to raise your hand and become an organizer for DisruptHR events in Phoenix?
I’ve always been a bit of a maverick in the world of HR. I found Disrupt is raw, candid, with thought igniting conversations, and action to light the fire of change.
Any chance I get to help shape what is possible with a group of amazing humans – I’m in!
How many events have you organized?
We’ve organized 2 events – Spring 2016 and Fall 2016, and we’re in the process of planning a Spring 2017 event. Our prior events were attended by over 100 people, and we anticipate 200 for our next event!
What types of people/industries attended your events?
HR, consultants, startup, CEO, L+D, marketing, sales, and tech.
What are you most proud of that has come out of being involved with/organizing DisruptHR events?
Creating a community of what is possible, connecting unlikely people and business segments, and fostering conversations and actions around what is the future of work and people at work.
What kind of feedback have you received from those who have attended DisruptHR Phoenix events?
We’ve received very positive feedback from attendees around organizing a night to connect with like-minded people who might never have had the chance to connect otherwise.
What is your favorite DisruptHR Talk, and why?
I can’t pick just one!
Through Disrupt I’ve had the fortune of connecting with some of the most amazing people – speakers and the attendees. I’m blessed to have been a part of weaving together such a rich community of good hearted humans.
Based off of the Talks and conversations at your events, what do you feel are the areas with the biggest opportunity for disruption?
The biggest opportunity for disruption is to move past disruption to action – to break down the barriers between our professional and personal self, to stop labeling ourselves with identifying factors such as our title. That isn’t who I am.
Breaking the rules of engagement around personal and professional. It’s ok to be friends with the people you work with.
If we want different results in the sphere of HR, we need to create different experiences, and that starts with each of us individually.
What excites you or frustrates you about the future of work, your career and/or DisruptHR?
What excites me is that we are part of a movement, not just a conversation. It’s an exciting time to be in HR, and alive in general, as we’re going through a rapid metamorphosis. We are questioning our existence, and converging traditions with innovation. I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of the transformation happening.
