Who are the people that are taking the lead in disrupting the future of work?
They’re the official Disruptors (Organizers) of DisruptHR events held in cities around the world.
Each week, we’ll introduce you to one of these intelligent, inspiring, and beautiful people (okay, pick two) who have stepped up, and volunteered to organize a Disrupt HR event in their city.
Meet Shelli Holland – DisruptHR Washington DC (Disruptor #69)
LinkedIn – Shelli Holland
Twitter – @Shellholland
Who are you, and what do you do in your “day job”?
Shelli Holland – Sr. Manager, Talent Management. I lead the Organizational Development and the Business Partner team for Frontpoint Security.
How did you first hear about DisruptHR?
When living in Columbus, Ohio, I was introduced to DisruptHR by a colleague who followed someone in the Talent Community that spoke at a DisruptHR Cleveland event. From there I inquired, and worked to set up Disrupt HR in Washington DC.
Why did you decide to raise your hand and become an organizer for DisruptHR events in Washington, DC?
The Washington, DC Metro area was missing a progressive knowledge share and networking event for leaders in Talent, People Team, HR – or whatever you may call it. There are a lot of independent groups, and of course we’re the “home” of SHRM, but we needed something different.
In an area of politics and government – I wanted to shake things up (with a wonderful group of volunteers), to bring DC Metro a chance to meet other culture-leaders and game-changers.
How many events have you organized?
We have had one event to date (September 2016), with over 175 attendees. For perspective, we were targeting 75 for our first event!
What types of people attended your event?
We were able to capture all major professions in the DC area, technologists, CIOs, CMOs, CEOs, Recruiters, HR Practitioners, Personal Wellness leaders, and much more! We seriously covered every role and industry.
What are you most proud of that has come out of being involved with DisruptHR events?
The ability to bring forward-thinking and business oriented leaders together, regardless of role or area of discipline. It all connects back to talent!
What kind of feedback did you receive from those who attended the first DisruptHR DC event?
We broke the mold for knowledge sharing by being able to integrate HR Professionals, C-levels and non-traditional speakers into an event where it actually made them think and engage.
What is your favorite DisruptHR Talk, and why?
We had Michael Heller – CEO & Founder of iRevü speak, and his Talk was “Gordon Ramsey Would Make A Great F*#@ing HR Leader”. It was shocking and thought provoking!

What excites you or frustrates you about the future of work, your career and/or DisruptHR?
The most frustrating – and an area of opportunity – in the HR/Talent community is the traditional/non-progressive HR practitioners that continue to teach their static, policy-driven ways, which fosters the next generation of traditional HR practitioners.
