Active Legacy: An Exploration Of Legacy As A Tool For Improvement Today – a DisruptHR talk by Russell Hamilton – Principal at Connection Lab
DisruptHR Vancouver 1 – November 4, 2015 in Vancouver, British Columbia. #DisruptHRYVR
Primary relationship #1 – relationship to self.
Primary relationship #2 – relationship to content.
Primary relationship #3 – relationship to audience.
Three primary relationships that require three different sets of competencies happening in real time. It’s like playing three instruments at the same time – which is why some people don’t want to join the band. It’s hard, but we tend to take it for granted.
All of these principals apply to legacy too. The people who came before us – we were their audience. And now, the people who come after us are watching us. You cannot decide for them what is valuable about your offer. All you can do is concentrate on the quality of your offer. The only thing you can control is the offer itself. Our legacies are co-created. What’s useful is to understand what you’re responsible for in that equation.
What if we make legacy a verb? Let’s go make something better than we found it. Do it consciously and serve it up to whomever is coming after us.
