Meet The Disruptors: Natalie Dumond of DisruptHR Kitchener-Waterloo

Who are the people that are taking the lead in disrupting the future of work?

They’re the official Disruptors (Organizers) of DisruptHR events held in cities around the world. Each week, we’ll introduce you to one of these intelligent, inspiring, and beautiful people (okay, pick two) who have stepped up, and volunteered to organize a Disrupt HR event in their city.

Who are you, and what do you do in your “day job”?

I’m Natalie Dumond. Director People Operations at Miovision Technologies Inc.

How did you first hear about DisruptHR?

I first heard about DisruptHR through a colleague of mine at Miovision. He knew my thoughts on how HR needs to be disrupted and thought DisruptHR was something I should look into and join.

Why did you decide to raise your hand and become an organizer for DisruptHR events in Kitchener-Waterloo?

I wanted to bring an event focused on that would help inspire and motivate the Kitchener-Waterloo HR community to think bigger and bolder with how we shape our roles and organizational cultures. I was also motivated to connect people to thought leaders within our industry, help expand networks.

How many events have you organized?

We had our inaugural event on March 8th 2017, with 150 people in attendance. It was a sold out event! This was great as we didn’t know what to expect. What this indicated is that KW HR community is ready for disruption. Excited to start planning the next event.

What types of people/industries have attended your events?

We had a lot of HR professionals in the audience, mostly from the tech and insurance sectors.

What are you most proud of that has come out of being involved with/organizing DisruptHR events?

I’m most proud of bringing an event to the community that hopefully inspired people to start to think differently about their roles in HR.

Its also been inspiring to connect so so many other HR disruptors who are just as passionate as I am when it comes to creating great cultures. Love connecting with other thought leaders!

What kind of feedback have you received from those who attended prior DisruptHR Kitchener-Waterloo events?

It was great to hear the gratitude from attendees and speakers about bringing this platform to KW. It was clear to see the community was excited to have this event, and can’t wait to see what the next one has to offer.

What is your favorite DisruptHR Talk, and why?

This is a hard one! There have been so many great talks its hard to narrow it down to one…so I’ll narrow it down to two even thought I thought they were all amazing!

The talk by Jackie Lauer (Wizard of Oz as the Coach to HR) was an inspiring talk on having more courage. Highly recommend checking it out.

And the talk by Jamie Good (Hiring Disruptors) was a great talk on recruiting and hiring disruptors as they will help to innovate and keep your organization in the game.

Based off of the Talks and conversations at your events, what do you feel are the areas with the biggest opportunity for disruption?

Some of the themes that came out of our event were around building authenticity and trust within organizations. I believe people are looking to be apart of cultures and organizations that are true to who they say they are. Employees what to see if organizations are true to their values, do they walk the talk.
As HR continues to evolve our role as coaches and builders of culture will demand that we know how to create and foster cultures of authenticity and trust.

What excites you or frustrates you about the future of work, your career and/or DisruptHR?

I’m excited about the future of work and HR. There is so much opportunity to change the way in which we work, the options are limitless. We just need to have the courage to know we can make change. Its inspiring to be in an industry that can have such a positive affect on the way people feel about their careers and organizations. Its an exciting time to be in HR!
